Tomita Tetsunosuke

Tomita Tetsunosuke (富田鐵之助?, December 5, 1835-February 27, 1916) was a Japanese businessman, central banker and the 2nd Governor of the Bank of Japan (BOJ). He was a member of Japan's House of Peers.[1]

Early life

Tomita was born in Miyagi Prefecture.[2]

Career

Tomita was an organizer of the Bank of Japan. He was its first Vice Governor;[1] and he was head of the bank from from February 21, 1888 through September 3, 1889.[3]

In 1897, Tomita organized the Yokohama Fire Insurance Company, later known as Yokohama Fire, Marine, Transit & Fidelity Insurance; and he was its president.[1]
